On the afternoon of May 16th, 2021 our world turned upside down. What started out as a normal, busy Sunday for our family of five, turned into an unexpected visit to the local emergency room, and ended with Cameron admitted to Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland, Maine. We had just spent the weekend wrapping up travel basketball and began playing baseball for the first time as the COVID pandemic was still raging on. We were all excited to be out on the field again and looking forward to more time together with our friends and family, but God had other plans for us. Cameron had just turned 12 years old; his brothers, Vincent and Dominic were 10 and 14.

Cameron did not go to school that Monday, nor many more school days at all. He found himself In the confines of a hospital bed, fighting for his life given the dreadful and terrifying news that he had B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Instead of playing baseball,  Cameron was looking out of his window watching the Sea Dogs games and waving down to his brothers, family and friends standing outside on the streets waving back at him. There were no visitors allowed due to COVID, not even his brothers.

Cameron spent the next days, weeks, months and years bravely undergoing travel to Maine Children’s Cancer Program, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and Dana Farber/Boston Children’s Hospital with medical appoints, exams, surgeries, treatments and procedures.  Our family priorities and routine changed. Cameron and his brother’s lives had immediately shifted and were significantly impacted.

No matter how far away we were from home, our friends, family, and community always felt present.  They came along for the ride to get us through four years of the most challenging treatments all of which required Cameron to be apart from many that he loved.  Cameron’s medical teams became like family and bravely led the way to the most advanced care, research and treatments available.

Despite the love and care of all that knew and surrounded Cameron, he passed away on the evening of February 28, 2025, just shy of his 16th birthday.

Please consider donating, or join us at one of our community events, to help support families dealing with childhood cancer.
